12th December 2015
Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: 20/30 Surf / Sea State: lumpy Air Temperature: 12 Sea Temperature: 9 Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 29.72 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 8.22 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
The forecast today was for strong winds and rain arriving at midday, the
same time as high water at Felixstowe, not ideal at The Dip:( So relaxing
morning at home which was nice after three days at work then an exiting
trip to Lidl in the rain and cold, at this point it didn't look promising
for a sail as it was only 8 degrees:( I then checked The Dip at about one
and with no one about I sat on the cliff top listening to Ipswich play DK
Dons and town were played off the park and still won 1 - 0 !!! football is
crap!!! then Ian Clarke arrived to sail so I had no choice but to go home
and get my kit. Back at The Dip Ian and I were talking ourselves out of it
as the sea was lumpy and it was chilly but then Andy Marshall turned up
already in his wetsuit and started to rig 6.2 so we then had to sail!!! I
went with 6.5 on my 133 hoping it didn't get as windy as forecast! The
temperature had risen a little, peaking at 12 degrees:) and the rain had
stopped and with my lovely new Mystic suit on I was fine, hat but no
gloves. The sea was very lumpy but by sailing broad you could smooth it out
a bit but heading upwind out by the red and white bouy it was a real mess:(
I had a fun big sea speed session sailing very broad before heading up so I
could get back and found I could make a few groynes upwind after every run
,even playing with the swells on the way in:) My speeds improved with each
run starting with 24 then 26,27 and 28 kts with the wind now gusting to
30kts. I then switched from a 38 fin to a 32 and got my best ever open sea
run here at Felixstowe, missing 30kts by a whisker!!! :( if I had been on
my 100lt board I would have done it! They say do something that scares
you every day and I certainly did that today:) With the light failing fast
and after crashing out at 27kts on my last run I decided to call it a day
and had to pack up in the dark! I the end there were 7 windsurfers and 2
kiters out so not toobad for December.
